Religious Education for Children and Youth

Currently, we have Religious Education for children ages preschool – young teens in a “one room school” format – with all ages meeting together.

The children’s program is held concurrently with the Sunday morning services.  Children begin the service with the adults (including lighting the chalice, sharing joys/concerns and time for all ages) then leave with an adult leader for their program (about 45 min.) in the room next door.  Any children or youth that wish to remain in the worship service rather than attend the children’s program are always welcome.

Curriculum is sourced primarily from the Unitarian Universalist Association in America as well as from various reputable children’s educators.  Programming usually includes time for lessons, crafts and games.  After the program, children rejoin the adults for our informal lunch.

Our curriculum and format for the children’s program has evolved over time as our children grow up.  We endeavour to be flexible and as accommodating as possible to the needs of all our children and youth..

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to the small number of children in our congregation, the religious education program may occasionally be cancelled, especially if we know in advance that several families’ children will not be attending on a particular Sunday.  If you are a visitor and would like to bring your children, please contact the BUUF Secretary so we can plan ahead.

Religious Education for Adults

Traditionally, our Religious Education for Adults has been incorporated into our Sunday services.  Part of the service format includes a sermon or address followed by discussion.  These discussions often continue or carry over into the lunch/social hour.
